This document introduces a quad H-bridge micromotor driver named MPC17550, which features a DC/DC boost converter and independent control. It is suitable for portable electronic devices powered by two to four cell NiCd/NiMH batteries and can drive tiny bipolar stepper motors and/or brush DC motors. It has a low current-drain standby mode and PWM control capability.
The MPC17550 is a monolithic quad H-Bridge power IC designed for portable electronic applications containing tiny bipolar stepper motors and/or brush DC-motors powered by two-to-four cell NiCd/NiMH batteries. The device operates from 2.5 V to 5.5 V and features an on-board DC/DC boost converter that allows motor operation down to 1.6 V by supplying gate-drive voltage for the four independent H-bridge output stages.
Key features include independent control of each H-Bridge via parallel 3.0 V or 5.0 V logic-compatible I/O, built-in shoot-through current protection, and the ability to set the device into a very low current-drain standby mode. The H-Bridge outputs can be independently PWM'ed at up to 200 kHz for speed/torque and current control.
| Motor Supply Voltage | 1.6 V to 5.5 V |
|---|---|
| Logic Supply Voltage | 2.5 V to 5.5 V |
| Output Current (Continuous) | 700 mA |
| Total Rpsony | 1.2 Ohms Max |
| PWM Control Input Frequency | up to 200 kHz |
| Operating Ambient Temperature | -10 to 60 °C |
The device allows motor operation all the way down to 1.6 V due to the built-in DC/DC boost converter.
Yes, each output bridge has its own gate-drive and logic circuitry with built-in shoot-through current protection.
The H-Bridge outputs can be independently PWM'ed at up to 200 kHz for speed/torque and current control.
