This paper describes a comparison of collision/reaction cell modes for the measurement of interfered analytes in complex matrices using the Agilent 7700 Series ICP-MS.
This document provides a technical overview comparing different cell modes—no gas, helium (He) collision mode, and hydrogen (H2) reaction mode—for the measurement of multiple interfered analytes. It evaluates the performance of these modes in complex and variable sample matrices typical of environmental analysis.
The study highlights that while reaction gases can remove specific known interferences, they often create new cell-formed ions or cause signal loss for analytes. In contrast, helium collision mode combined with kinetic energy discrimination (KED) is demonstrated to offer superior performance for multi-element analysis in unknown and complex matrices.
It is used for elemental determinations across a wide range of analyses, including environmental, semiconductor, food safety, geological, chemical, petrochemical, nuclear, clinical, forensic, and research applications.
The investigation focused on all of the elements in the mass range from 45 to 80.
The calibration was performed at 0 ppb and 10 ppb.
