About this manual

The Philips PCA16xx series consists of CMOS integrated circuits specially suited for battery-operated, quartz-crystal-controlled wrist-watches with bipolar stepping motors. The devices include a 32 kHz oscillator with excellent frequency stability and an internal EEPROM for electrically programmable time calibration. They require only a quartz crystal as an external component and offer very low current consumption, typically 170 nA.

Frequently asked questions

What external components are required for the PCA16xx series?

A quartz crystal is the only external component required.

How is time calibration performed on these devices?

Time calibration is electrically programmable and reprogrammable via the internal EEPROM.

What happens if the battery end-of-life is detected?

The motor pulse is produced without chopping, and bursts of 4 pulses are produced every 4 seconds to indicate the condition.
