The SAA1502ATS is a safety IC launched by Philips. This IC has temperature protection, zero voltage start-up, over-charge and over-discharge protection, etc. It is suitable for single cell lithium-ion battery packs and is currently widely used in GSM and other portable telephone batteries.
The SAA1502ATS is an integrated protection circuit intended for use in single cell Li-ion battery packs, particularly for portable telephones such as GSM devices. Manufactured using a Bipolar, CMOS and DMOS (BCD) Power Logic 70 process, the device functions as a safety unit to be integrated inside the battery pack rather than as an end-of-charge provision.
The circuit continuously monitors battery voltage, current, and temperature to disconnect the battery in case of overload or fault conditions. Key features include overdischarge protection (preventing deep discharge below 2.3 V), overcharge protection (triggering at 4.18 V), and overcurrent protection on both charge and discharge paths. The device utilizes integrated power switches with extremely low current consumption when the battery voltage is lower than 2.3 V.

It is intended to be used as a protection circuit for single cell Li-ion battery packs, especially in portable telephones such as GSM.
The system switches to the discharge inhibit mode when the battery voltage drops below 2.3 V.
The overdischarge detection of 2.3 V has a delay of 40 ms typical.
The temperature protection is activated at a junction temperature of 130 °C.
