This document is a product bulletin for the Optek OPB828 series of slotted optical switches, available in types A, B, C, and D. The devices consist of an infrared emitting diode and an NPN silicon phototransistor mounted on opposite sides of a 0.125-inch wide slot. The series features printed circuit board mounting, a 0.220-inch lead spacing, and an inexpensive plastic housing. Variations include IR transmissive or opaque housings with different aperture sizes.

Methanol or isopropanol are recommended, as the plastic housing is soluble in chlorinated hydrocarbons and ketones.
