3059 and 3060 hall-effect gear-tooth sensors - ac coupled
The 3059 and 3060 Hall‑Effect gear‑tooth sensors are monolithic ICs that switch in response to differential magnetic fields generated by moving ferrous targets such as gear teeth. They are suited for non‑zero‑speed speed, position and timing applications, including anti‑lock braking systems, transmissions and crankshafts. The devices include on‑chip voltage regulation, Hall transducers, temperature compensation, a band‑pass filter and a Schmitt trigger, allowing operation from 4.5 V to 24 V and output currents up to 20 mA.
Key specifications include a supply voltage range of 4.5‑24 V, reverse‑battery protection to –30 V, operating temperature ranges of –20 °C to +85 °C (UGN) or –40 °C to +125 °C (UGS), high‑frequency cutoff at 30 kHz, and output rise/fall times of 0.04‑0.2 µs / 0.18‑0.3 µs. The sensors are packaged in a 5‑pin plastic SIP and can be used with a back‑biasing permanent magnet (SmCo, AlNiCo, or NdFeB) for various air‑gap and temperature requirements.

They operate from 4.5 V up to 24 V.
The output stage can switch up to 20 mA.
UGN devices work from –20 °C to +85 °C, while UGS devices work from –40 °C to +125 °C.
Rare‑earth samarium cobalt (SmCo) is recommended for high accuracy and large air gaps.
