This manual introduces the general description, features and applications of MAX3440E-MAX3444E fault-protected RS-485 and J1708 transceivers.
The MAX3440E‑MAX3444E family are fault‑protected RS‑485 and J1708 transceivers that provide +15 kV ESD protection and +60 V fault protection. Each device includes a differential line driver with three‑state output and a differential line receiver with three‑state input, supporting data rates up to 10 Mbps from a 5 V supply.
These devices are offered in 8‑pin SO and PDIP packages, operate over industrial and automotive temperature ranges (‑40 °C to +125 °C), and allow up to 128 transceivers on a single bus. The datasheet includes absolute maximum ratings, electrical characteristics, switching performance, test circuits, and ordering information.
