This document describes a Hall-effect switch that is ideal for use with a simple bar or rod magnet. The device has a unipolar switching characteristic and features temperature compensation circuitry, small-signal amplifier, Schmitt trigger, and constant-current open-collector output.
The Allegro 3163 Hall‑Effect Switch is a monolithic integrated circuit designed for continuous operation up to +85 °C. It includes an internal voltage regulator, reverse‑battery protection, a quadratic Hall‑voltage generator, temperature‑compensation circuitry, a small‑signal amplifier, Schmitt trigger, and a constant‑current open‑collector output for true 2‑wire operation. Noise is limited by controlling the output‑current slew rate.
Two package styles are offered: the miniature SOT89/TO‑243AA (suffix “LT”) for surface‑mount use and the ultra‑mini SIP (suffix “UA”) for through‑hole mounting. The device is qualified for a wide range of applications, with extensive application notes available in the Allegro Electronic Data Book.
| Supply Voltage | 3.5 V – 24 V |
|---|---|
| Output Current (typical) | 14 mA |
| Output Slew Rate (typical) | 7.0 mA/µs |
| Reverse Battery Voltage | -16 V |
| Operating Temperature Range | -40 °C to +85 °C |
| Maximum Junction Temperature | +170 °C |
It operates from 3.5 V up to 24 V.
An internal current regulator provides a constant‑current open‑collector output that is wired internally for true 2‑wire operation.
The maximum junction temperature is +170 °C.
