This document is an introduction manual for MC78LC00 series voltage regulators. The series features ultra-low quiescent current and high accuracy output voltage, and can be used in video instruments, handheld communication equipment and battery powered equipment.
The MC78LC00 series voltage regulators are designed for video instruments, handheld communication equipment, and other battery‑powered applications. They feature an ultra‑low quiescent current of 1.1 µA typical, low dropout voltage (220 mV at 10 mA), high accuracy (+‑2.5 %), and a wide output voltage range from 2.0 V to 6.0 V. Devices are offered in SOT‑89 (3‑pin) and SOT‑23 (5‑pin) surface‑mount packages.
Typical applications require an input bypass capacitor when the regulator is placed more than 4 inches from the source, and a minimum 0.1 µF output capacitor for stability. The datasheet also provides a current‑boost circuit capable of delivering up to 600 mA when external transistors are used.
