The STP16CL596 is a monolithic, low voltage, low current power 16-bit shift register designed for LED panel displays. It contains a 16-bit serial-in, parallel-out shift register that feeds a 16-bit D-type storage register. Sixteen regulated current sources are provided in the output stage to drive the LEDs with constant current ranging from 15 to 90mA. The output current of the STP16CL596 can be adjusted by an external resistor to control the light intensity of the LEDs. It can drive up to 16V output, allowing users to connect more LEDs in series. The device has a high clock frequency of 25MHz, meeting the requirements of high volume data transmission. The 3.3V voltage supply is suitable for interfacing with any 3.3V microcontroller. The TSSOP exposed pad package improves heat dissipation capability by a factor of 2.5 compared to a standard TSSOP package.
