This document introduces the characteristics of MAX3238 true RS-232 transceiver. The chip can operate at a power supply of 3.3V-5.5V and supports 5-driver/3-receiver. The maximum data transmission rate can reach 250kbps.
The MAX3238 is a true RS‑232 transceiver that achieves a 1 µA supply current using Maxim’s AutoShutdown Plus feature. It provides a 5‑driver/3‑receiver serial port powered from a single +3.0 V to +5.5 V supply and guarantees a 250 kbps data rate, making it suitable for notebook, sub‑notebook, handheld and battery‑powered equipment.
The datasheet includes electrical characteristics, absolute maximum ratings, pin configuration, package dimensions, and application notes such as capacitor selection and power‑management control. Ordering information for the temperature‑rated variants (MAX3238CAl and MAX3238EAl) and a typical operating circuit diagram are also provided.
| Supply current (AutoShutdown Plus) | 1 µA |
|---|---|
| Guaranteed data rate | 250 kbps |
| Supply voltage range | +3.0 V to +5.5 V |
| Drivers / Receivers | 5 drivers, 3 receivers |
