MAX3243E is a 3-V to 5.5-V multichannel RS-232 line driver/receiver with ±15-kV IEC ESD protection. It is a single-chip and single-supply interface for IBM™ PC/AT™ serial port. The device meets or exceeds the requirements of TIA/EIA-232-F and ITU v.28 standards, and operates with a 3-V to 5.5-V VCC supply. MAX3243E features an always-active noninverting receiver output (ROUT2B) and is designed to transmit at a data rate up to 500 kbit/s. Additionally, the device features low standby current (1 µA typical) and external capacitors (4 × 0.1 µF). MAX3243E accepts 5-V logic input and is compatible with a 3.3-V supply. The device is interchangeable with Maxim MAX3243E and features an auto-powerdown feature to disable driver outputs when no valid RS-232 signal is sensed. MAX3243E can be used for battery-powered systems, PDAs, POS terminals, telephone terminals, industrial and medical equipment, and other applications.
