About this manual

The ADL5240 is a digitally‑controlled variable gain amplifier (VGA) designed for RF/IF applications from 100 MHz to 4 GHz. It combines a 20 dB gain amplifier with a 6‑bit, 0.5 dB step digital attenuator, providing a total gain control range of 31.5 dB with ±0.25 dB accuracy. The device can be configured with either a serial or parallel interface and supports both AMP‑DSA and DSA‑AMP loop configurations.

The VGA operates from a single 5 V supply (4.75 V‑5.25 V) and draws only 93 mA for the amplifier and 0.5 mA for the attenuator. It is packaged in a thermally efficient 5 mm × 5 mm, 32‑lead LFCSP and is specified for –40 °C to +85 °C operation. An evaluation board is provided for rapid prototyping.
