This document introduces the Maxim Integrated Products MAX703/MAX704 low-cost microprocessor supervisory circuits, which can reduce the number of components required for power-supply monitoring and battery control functions in microprocessor systems, and improve system reliability and accuracy
The MAX703 and MAX704 are low‑cost microprocessor supervisory circuits that provide active‑low reset, battery‑backup switching, a 1.25 V threshold detector and a manual reset input. They are offered in 8‑pin DIP, SO and CERDIP packages and are intended for computers, controllers, intelligent instruments and automotive systems.
The document includes detailed electrical characteristics, absolute maximum ratings, pin descriptions, ordering information and example application circuits such as battery‑backup using SuperCaps or lithium cells. It also provides guidance on adding hysteresis to the power‑fail comparator and ensuring a valid RESET output.
| Reset voltage threshold (MAX703) | 4.65 V |
|---|---|
| Reset voltage threshold (MAX704) | 4.40 V |
| Reset pulse width | 200 ms |
| Available packages | 8‑pin DIP, 8‑pin SO, 8‑pin CERDIP |
| Maximum backup‑battery voltage (MAX703) | 4.80 V |
| Maximum backup‑battery voltage (MAX704) | 4.55 V |
The MAX703 asserts reset when the supply voltage falls below 4.65 V.
The device holds the reset output low for about 200 ms after the supply rises above the threshold.
Both parts are available in 8‑pin DIP, 8‑pin SO and 8‑pin CERDIP packages.
