About this manual

The bq2050H Lithium Ion Power Gauge IC is designed for battery-pack or in-system installation to maintain an accurate record of available battery capacity. It monitors voltage drops across a sense resistor to determine charge and discharge activity, with automatic compensation for battery temperature, self-discharge, and discharge rate.

The device features a 5kb single-wire communication interface (HDQ bus) for critical battery parameters and can directly drive remaining capacity LEDs. It operates from the batteries in the pack using a simple voltage regulator and includes internal registers for available capacity, temperature, and battery status.

Frequently asked questions

How is the bq2050H reset?

It can be reset by removing Vcc and grounding the RBI pin for 15 seconds, or by commands over the serial port.

What is the function of the RBI pin?

The RBI input pin provides backup potential to the internal bq2050H registers when Vcc drops below 3.0V.

How does the bq2050H measure temperature?

It internally determines the temperature in 10°C steps centered from approximately -35°C to +85°C.
