This document describes a complete design for a data acquisition card compatible with the IBM PC. It utilizes the LTC1099 8-bit analog-to-digital (A/D) converter to enable sampling speeds of more than 20kHz on systems like the Turbo XT, 80286, and 80386 processors.
The note is divided into two main parts. The first part details the hardware design, including address decoding, A/D conversion circuitry, timer logic using an 8253 programmable interval timer, and a D/A section. The second part provides C language code examples for controlling the board's functions.
All system timing and acquisition time measurements were based on a 4.77MHz clock speed.
