About this manual

The AD5204/AD5206 family provides digitally controlled variable resistors that replace mechanical potentiometers in instrumentation, programmable voltage‑to‑current conversion, and filter applications. Each channel contains a fixed resistor and a wiper that can be positioned to any of 256 steps via a 3‑wire SPI‑compatible serial interface, with optional mid‑scale preset on power‑up.

The devices operate over an industrial temperature range (‑40 °C to +85 °C) and support single‑supply (+2.7 V to +5.5 V) or dual‑supply (±2.7 V) operation. They are offered in PDIP, SOIC, TSSOP, and 32‑lead LFCSP packages, and include features such as a reset pin for mid‑scale positioning and programmable terminal resistance options of 10 kΩ, 50 kΩ, or 100 kΩ.

Frequently asked questions

What is the maximum supply voltage for the AD5204/AD5206?

The devices operate from +2.7 V to +5.5 V on a single supply, or from ±2.7 V on a dual‑supply configuration.

How many channels does the AD5206 provide?

The AD5206 provides six independent programmable channels.

What does the optional reset (PR) pin do?

The PR pin forces all wipers to the mid‑scale position by loading 0x80 into the VR latch.

In which packages are the AD5204/AD5206 available?

They are offered in 24‑lead PDIP, SOIC, TSSOP, and a 32‑lead LFCSP (5 mm × 5 mm) package.
