This document introduces the MC33989 chip of Freescale Semiconductor, which combines many functions used by microcontrollers (MCU) in automotive Engine Control Units (ECUs). The chip has two voltage regulators, four high voltage inputs, a 1Mbaud CAN physical interface, a SPI interface to the MCU and VSUP monitoring and fault detection circuitry. In addition, it also provides MCU interrupt functions based on CAN bus activity and mode changes.
The MC33989 is a monolithic system basis chip that integrates voltage regulators, a high‑speed CAN physical interface, SPI, and watchdog functions for automotive ECU microcontrollers. It provides up to 200 mA regulator output, four high‑voltage wake‑up inputs, and a 1 Mbaud CAN bus.
The document includes pin definitions, internal block diagrams, electrical characteristics, maximum and thermal ratings, and revision history, helping designers select and implement the device in automotive applications.
