The MAX3130/MAX3131 is a MAXIM infrared transceiver that supports the IrDA 1.2 protocol and data rates of 2.4kbps to 115kbps. The chip integrates IrDA transceiver and RS-232 interface, which can realize infrared and RS-232 communication.
The MAX3130 and MAX3131 combine an IrDA 1.2 compatible infrared transceiver with an RS‑232 interface in a single 28‑pin SSOP package. The devices operate from a single 3 V to 5.5 V supply and support IrDA data rates of 2.4 kbps to 115 kbps as well as RS‑232 data rates up to 120 kbps.
Key features include a high‑gain/low‑noise PIN‑diode amplifier, a 200 mA high‑current LED driver, selectable shutdown mode reducing supply current to 1 µA, and an on‑board encoder/decoder that allows use with non‑IrDA UARTs. Typical applications are PDAs, handheld equipment, battery‑powered systems and other IrDA or RS‑232 communication needs.
