The MAX3222, MAX3232, MAX3237, and MAX3241 are low‑dropout RS‑232 transceivers that operate from a 3.0 V to 5.5 V supply using a dual charge‑pump architecture. They require only four 0.1 pF external capacitors and are pin‑compatible with legacy MAX232/MAX242 devices.
Key features include guaranteed data rates of 120 kbps (MAX3222/3232/3241) or up to 1 Mbps in MegaBaud mode (MAX3237), shutdown current below 1 pA, and a variety of TSSOP/SSOP package options. Typical applications are notebook and sub‑notebook computers, high‑speed modems, battery‑powered equipment, and handheld peripherals.
| Supply Voltage Range | 3.0 V to 5.5 V |
|---|---|
| Maximum Data Rate (MAX3222/3232/3241) | 120 kbps |
| Maximum Data Rate (MAX3237) – Normal Mode | 250 kbps |
| Maximum Data Rate (MAX3237) – MegaBaud Mode | 1 Mbps |
| Shutdown Supply Current | < 1 pA |
| Operating Temperature Range (MAX3222) | -40 °C to +85 °C |
The MAX3222 is guaranteed to run at a data rate of 120 kbps.
The MAX3222 has two receivers and two drivers.
In shutdown mode the supply current falls to less than 1 pA.
