About this manual

The MAX3188 and MAX3189 are single RS‑232 transmitters offered in a compact 6‑pin SOT‑23 package, designed for space‑ and cost‑constrained applications. They operate from +4.5 V to +6 V dual supplies and consume only 150 µA typical supply current, dropping to 1 pA in shutdown mode. The MAX3188 supports up to 250 kbps data rates, while the MAX3189 can reach 1 Mbps under worst‑case load conditions.

Key features include an inverting level translator, three‑state output, shutdown input for ultra‑low power, and no external components required. The datasheet details absolute maximum ratings, electrical characteristics, pin functions, and recommended application circuits such as power‑supply decoupling and charge‑pump usage.
