About this manual

The MAX3230E/AE and MAX3231E/AE are low‑power RS‑232 transceiver ICs that operate from +2.5 V to +5.5 V and support data rates up to 250 kbps. They feature Maxim’s AutoShutdown technology, reducing supply current to 1 µA when no valid RS‑232 signals are present, and provide configurable logic‑level inputs via a separate VL supply.

Both devices are offered in chip‑scale (UCSP) and wafer‑level package (WLP) formats, include dual‑mode regulated charge‑pump voltage conversion, and are protected against electrostatic discharge up to ±15 kV (Human Body Model). The datasheet details absolute maximum ratings, electrical and timing characteristics, pin functions, and recommended operating conditions.
