About this manual

The MAX3221, MAX3223, and MAX3243 are single‑supply RS‑232 transceivers designed for notebook, sub‑notebook, and handheld applications. They feature Maxim’s AutoShutdown technology, which reduces supply current to 1 pA when no valid RS‑232 signal is present, saving power without BIOS changes.

The devices operate from a +3.0 V to +5.5 V supply, require only 0.1 pF external capacitors, and guarantee a 120 kbps data rate with a minimum slew rate of 6 V/µs. They are offered in multiple packages, including 16‑pin SSOP/TSSOP for the MAX3221 and 20‑pin DIP/SSOP/TSSOP for the MAX3223, as well as a 28‑pin wide‑SO/SSOP/TSSOP for the MAX3243.
