This document describes the features and characteristics of the ADM3483/ADM3485/ADM3488/ADM3490/ADM3491 series half-duplex and full-duplex RS-485/RS-422 transceivers, including operation with a 3.3V supply, interoperability with 5V logic, compliance with EIA RS-422 and RS-485 standards, data rate options, reduced slew rates for low EMI, low power consumption, and the ability to connect up to 32 transceivers simultaneously.
The ADM3483/ADM3485/ADM3488/ADM3490/ADM3491 family are low‑power differential line transceivers that operate from a single 3.3 V supply. They support half‑duplex (ADM3483, ADM3485) or full‑duplex (ADM3488, ADM3490, ADM3491) communication for RS‑485 and RS‑422 applications such as industrial control, telecom and HVAC.
Key features include reduced slew‑rate drivers for low EMI, a shutdown mode with nano‑ampere current draw, and the ability to connect up to 32 transceivers on the same bus. The devices are offered in 8‑lead and 14‑lead SOIC packages and are RoHS compliant.
| Supply Voltage | 3.3 V ± 0.3 V |
|---|---|
| Data Rate (ADM3483/ADM3488) | 0.25 Mbps |
| Data Rate (ADM3485/ADM3490/ADM3491) | 10 Mbps |
| Shutdown Current (ADM3483/ADM3485/ADM3491) | 2 nA |
| Maximum Bus Load | 32 transceivers |
| Input Resistance | 12 kΩ |
The devices operate from a 3.3 V supply with a tolerance of ±0.3 V.
Up to 32 transceivers can be connected on the same bus.
The shutdown current is 2 nA.
ADM3490 supports a data rate of up to 10 Mbps.
