About this manual

The ADXL278 is a low‑power, dual‑axis iMEMS accelerometer that provides fully differential sensor and circuitry for high resistance to EMI/RFI. It offers selectable full‑scale ranges of ±35 g, ±50 g or ±70 g/±35 g, high linearity (0.2 % of full scale) and a 2‑pole Bessel filter with a 400 Hz cutoff.

Designed for automotive applications such as vibration monitoring, vehicle collision sensing and shock detection, the device includes a comprehensive self‑test, a wide operating temperature range (‑40 °C to +105 °C) and is supplied in a 5 mm × 5 mm × 2 mm 8‑terminal ceramic LCC package.

Frequently asked questions

What full‑scale ranges are available for the ADXL278?

The ADXL278 can be ordered with output full‑scale ranges of ±35 g/±35 g, ±50 g/±50 g, or ±70 g/±35 g.

How does the self‑test function work on the ADXL278?

Activating the self‑test digital input changes the voltage on the forcing‑cell fingers, creating an electrostatic force that moves the sensor frame and produces a measurable output change, verifying the accelerometer’s operation.
