This document describes the features and characteristics of the AD8317 55 dB Log Detector/Controller, including wide bandwidth, high accuracy, dynamic range, stability, etc.
The AD8317 is a demodulating logarithmic amplifier designed for RF measurement and power‑control applications. It operates from 1 MHz up to 10 GHz, providing a 55 dB dynamic range and high accuracy (±1 dB over temperature). Typical applications include RF transmitter PA set‑point control, power monitoring in radio links, and RSSI measurement in base stations, WLANs, WiMAX and radars.
Key features include a small 2 mm × 3 mm LFCSP package, supply voltage of 3.0 V to 5.5 V, 22 mA typical quiescent current, pulse response time of 6 ns (fall) / 10 ns (rise), and a logarithmic slope of –22 mV/dB. The device offers both measurement mode (VOUT provides a decreasing linear‑in‑dB output) and controller mode (VSET controls external amplifiers).
