ABB provided the mine hoisting system at Pyhäsalmi Mine. The system is used to transport ore from underground to the surface. In 1996, Outokumpu decided to proceed with deep mining and built a new head frame and a new mine hoist system. ABB's mine hoisting system played a crucial role in this project.
The document describes the fully automatic 4‑rope, 4.5‑metre‑diameter friction hoist supplied by ABB for the Pyhasalmi zinc and copper mine. It covers the hoist’s mechanical design, hydraulic disc brakes, rope system, skip, cage, counterweight, and the ancillary heat‑recovery and ventilation equipment.
It also explains the electrical equipment, including the 2.5 MW synchronous motor driven by an ABB ACS 6000SD drive, the automatic control system based on Advant® OCS, remote monitoring capabilities, installation procedures, and the results of reliability testing performed after commissioning.
