RA8815 is a product with a built-in font ROM, which stores a large number of fonts, including Chinese characters, numerals, English, Japanese, European, and Latin fonts. Depending on the requirements, users can choose between traditional Chinese or simplified Chinese fonts. It also supports large ASCII fonts and small ASCII fonts, with various display area sizes and font sizes to choose from.
The RA8815 contains a built‑in 256 KByte word ROM that stores Chinese, numeric, English, Japanese, European and Latin fonts. Two model variants exist: RA8815G‑T with Traditional Chinese (BIG5) mapping and RA8815G‑S with Simplified Chinese (GB) mapping. Chinese characters are displayed in a 16×16 pixel area (actual 15×15).
The device also provides large (8×16 pixel, 1024 characters) and small (8×8 pixel, 512 characters) ASCII font tables. Selection of the large ASCII tables is controlled by the ASCS bit in register REG[03h] (ASCS=0 selects Table 1, ASCS=1 selects Table 2). Programming notes explain how to map external character codes to the internal tables. This manual is written in Chinese.
