The MAX7044 is a crystal-referenced phase-locked loop (PLL) VHF/UHF transmitter designed to transmit OOK/ASK data in the 300MHz to 450MHz frequency range. It supports data rates up to 100kbps, and provides output power up to +13dBm into a 50Ω load while only drawing 7.7mA at 2.7V. The MAX7044's crystal-based architecture eliminates many of the common problems with SAW-based transmitters by providing greater modulation depth, faster frequency settling, higher tolerance of the transmit frequency, and reduced temperature dependence. The MAX7044 also features a low supply voltage of +2.1V to +3.6V. These improvements enable better overall receiver performance when using the MAX7044 together with a superheterodyne receiver such as the MAX1470 or MAX1473. A simple, single-input data interface and a buffered clock-out signal at 1/16th the crystal frequency make the MAX7044 compatible with almost any microcontroller or code-hopping generator. The MAX7044 is available in an 8-pin SOT23 package and is specified over the -40°C to +125°C automotive temperature range.

The MAX7058 UHF transmitter alternately transmits ASK/OOK data at 315MHz or 390MHz using a single crystal. The MAX7058 has internal tuning capacitors at the output of the power amplifier that can be pro- grammed for matching to the antenna or load. The MAX7058 can transmit at a data rate up to 100kbps NRZ (50kbps Manchester coded). Typical transmitted power into a 50Ω load is +10dBm. The MAX7058 oper- ates from +2.1V to +3.6V and draws under 8.0mA of current. The standby current is less than 1μA at room temperature. A 15MHz crystal is used as the reference for 315MHz and 390MHz operation by selecting synthe- sizer-divide ratios of 21 and 26, respectively. The MAX7058 is available in a 4mm x 4mm, 24-pin thin QFN package and is specified to operate in the -40°C to +125°C automotive temperature range.

The MAX7057 frequency-programmable UHF transmitter is designed to transmit ASK/FSK data at a wide range of frequencies from 300MHz to 450MHz. The MAX7057 has internal tuning capacitors at the output of the power amplifier that are programmable for matching to an antenna or load. This allows the user to change to a new frequency and match the antenna at the new frequency simultaneously. The MAX7057 transmits at a data rate up to 100kbps nonreturn-to-zero (NRZ) (50kbps Manchester coded). Typical transmitted power into a 50Ω load is +9.2dBm with a +2.7V supply. The device operates from +2.1V to +3.6V and typically draws under 12.5mA of current in FSK mode (8.5mA in ASK mode) when the antenna-matching network is designed to operate over the 315MHz to 433.92MHz frequency range. For narrower operating frequency ranges, the matching network can be redesigned to improve efficiency. The standby current is less than 1µA at room temperature. The MAX7057 reference frequency from the crystal oscillator is multiplied by a fully integrated fractional-N phase-locked loop (PLL). The multiplying factor of the PLL is set by a 16-bit number, with 4 bits for integer and 12 bits for fraction; the multiplying factor can be anywhere between 19 and 28. The 12-bit fraction in the synthesizer sets a tuning resolution equal to the reference frequency divided by 4096; frequency deviation can be set as low as ±2kHz and as high as ±100kHz. The fractional-N synthesizer eliminates the PLL lock-up time, which is dependent on the reference frequency and the required division ratio. The MAX7057 supports adaptive crystal compensation, which compensates for temperature and voltage-induced frequency drift.

280MHz-450MHz Programmable ASK/FSK Transmitter

The MAX7049 is a high-performance ASK/FSK UHF transmitter that operates in the 288MHz to 945MHz carrier frequency range. It features ultra-low power consumption, precise tuning, fast frequency agility, and low out-of-band power, making it ideal for long-range applications. Additionally, the MAX7049 includes a digital temperature sensor and flexible GPOs for monitoring radio status and controlling external functions. It is suitable for applications such as automatic meter reading, remote keyless entry, wireless sensor networks, home security, home automation, RFID, and remote controls.

The MAX2370 is a Maxim company-designed 450MHz integrated quadrature transmitter. The device takes a differential I/Q baseband input and converts it up to intermediate frequency (IF) through a quadrature modulator and IF variable-gain amplifier (VGA). The signal is then routed to an external IF filter and upconverted to RF through an image-reject mixer and RF VGA. The signal is further amplified with an on-chip power amplifier (PA) driver. An IF synthesizer, an RF synthesizer, a local oscillator buffer, and an SPI™/QSPI™/MICROWIRE™-compatible, 3-wire programmable bus complete the basic functional blocks of this IC. The MAX2370 is available in a 48-pin TQFN package with exposed paddle and is specified for the extended temperature range (-40°C to +85°C).

The MAX2745 is a complete single-chip global positioning system (GPS) RF front-end downconverter that incorporates many innovative and leading-edge RF CMOS design techniques. It is a high-performance device with low power consumption, eliminating the need for costly SAW and bulky discrete IF filters. The MAX2745 includes a fully integrated low-noise amplifier (LNA) and mixer, IF section, digital sampler, and local oscillator synthesizer. It also provides a voltage supply for an external LNA and features a voltage booster that can extend the power-supply voltage to as low as 1.6V. The MAX2745 supports both 32MHz 3rd overtone crystal designs and 16MHz fundamental frequency crystal designs, as well as TCXO implementation. Additionally, it incorporates an on-chip temperature sensor and crystal oscillator with trimmed capacitors for accurate frequency and cost savings. The MAX2745 is available in a space-saving 48-pin TQFP package and is specified for the extended (-40°C to +85°C) temperature range. The device consumes as low as 41mW power at 2.4V.

MAX2769 is a high-performance, low-cost single-chip GPS receiver that supports GPS, GLONASS and Galileo navigation satellite systems

The MAX2769B is a next-generation Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receiver covering GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and Compass navigation satellite systems on a single chip. This single-conversion GNSS receiver is designed to provide high performance for industrial and automotive applications. Designed on Maxim’s advanced, low-power SiGe BiCMOS process technology, the MAX2769B offers the highest performance and integration at a low cost. Incorporated on the chip is the complete receiver chain, including a dual-input LNA and mixer, followed by the image-rejected filter, PGA, VCO, fractional-N frequency synthesizer, crystal oscillator, and a multibit ADC. The total cascaded noise figure of this receiver is as low as 1.4dB. The MAX2769B completely eliminates the need for exter- nal IF filters by implementing on-chip monolithic filters and requires only a few external components to form a com plete low-cost GPS RF receiver solution. The MAX2769B is the most flexible receiver on the mar- ket.

MAX2140 is a satellite digital audio receiver in the MAX series

The MAX2160/EBG tuner ICs are designed for use in Japanese mobile digital TV (ISDB-T single-segment) applications. The devices directly convert UHF band signals to a low-IF using a broadband I/Q downconverter. The operating frequency range extends from 470MHz to 770MHz. The MAX2160/EBG support both I/Q low-IF interfaces as well as single low-IF interfaces, making the devices universal tuners for various digital demodulator IC implementations. The MAX2160/EBG include an LNA, RF variable-gain amplifiers, I and Q downconverting mixers, low-IF variable-gain amplifiers, and bandpass filters providing in excess of 42dB of image rejection. The parts are capable of operating with either high-side or low-side local oscillator (LO) injection. The MAX2160/EBG’s variable-gain amplifiers provide in excess of 100dB of gain-control range. The MAX2160/EBG also include fully monolithic VCOs and tank circuits, as well as a complete frequency synthesizer. The devices include a XTAL oscillator as well as a separate TCXO input buffer. The devices operate with XTAL/TCXO oscillators from 13MHz to 26MHz allowing the shared use of a VC-TCXO in cellular handset applications. The MAX3580 is a fully integrated, direct-conversion TV tuner designed for Digital Video Broadcasting-Terrestrial (DVB-T) applications.

The MAX2165 is a direct-conversion tuner IC designed for handheld digital video broadcast (DVB-H) applications. The tuner covers a 470 MHz to 780 MHz input frequency range and features an I/Q baseband interface. The MAX2165’s direct-conversion architecture eliminates the need for an IF-SAW filter, allowing for reduced bill of materials cost. The design integrates a variable-gain, low-noise amplifier (LNA); a notch filter; an RF tracking filter; a quadrature mixer; a power detector; programmable baseband lowpass channel-selection filters; baseband variable-gain amplifiers (VGA); DC offset correction circuitry; and a complete fractional-N frequency synthesizer. The part is programmable through a 2-wire I2C-compatible serial interface. The MAX2165 integrates a tuneable notch filter. This filter is designed to notch out interfering signals in the 830 MHz to 950 MHz frequency range to allow for operation in the presence of large cellular signals. Programmable baseband channel-selection filters allow for operation with 7 MHz and 8 MHz channels. Digital DC offset correction circuitry supports time-sliced operation by minimizing power-up time delay. The fractional-N synthesizer reduces VCO lock time and minimizes close-in phase noise, eliminating the need for power-hungry, phase-noise reduction algorithms. The MAX2120 low-cost, direct-conversion tuner IC is designed for satellite set-top and VSAT applications. The IC is intended for QPSK, Digital Video Broadcast (DVB-S), DSS, and free-to-air applications. The MAX2120 directly converts the satellite signals from the LNB to baseband using a broadband I/Q downconverter. The operating frequency range extends from 925MHz to 2175MHz. The device includes an LNA and an RF variable-gain amplifier, I and Q downconverting mixers, and baseband lowpass filters with programmable cutoff frequency control and digitally controlled baseband variable-gain amplifiers. Together, the RF and baseband variable-gain amplifiers provide more than 80dB of gain-control range. The IC is compatible with virtually all QPSK demodulators. The MAX2120 includes fully monolithic VCOs, as well as a complete frequency synthesizer. Additionally, an on- chip crystal oscillator is provided along with a buffered output for driving additional tuners and demodulators. Synthesizer programming and device configuration are accomplished with a 2-wire serial interface. The IC features a VCO autoselect (VAS) function that automatically selects the proper VCO. For multituner applications, the device can be configured to have one of two 2-wire interface addresses.
