About this manual

The VCNL4200 is a fully integrated proximity and ambient light sensor that combines an infrared emitter, photodiode, and signal processing IC in a single 8.0 mm by 3.0 mm leadless package. It features a 16-bit ADC for ambient light sensing and a 12-bit or 16-bit ADC for proximity measurement, allowing object detection up to 1.5 meters (60 inches). The device uses a standard I2C bus interface and includes a programmable interrupt function to reduce microcontroller processing overhead.

Frequently asked questions

What is the maximum detection distance for the VCNL4200?

The device can recognize objects up to a distance of 1.5 meters (60 inches).

What is the peak wavelength of the integrated infrared emitter?

The integrated infrared emitter has a peak wavelength of 940 nm.

What is the recommended power supply voltage for the ASIC?

The power supply for the ASIC (V DD) has a defined range from 2.5 V to 3.6 V.

Does the VCNL4200 require an external infrared driver?

The ASIC delivers a current within 50 mA of being high enough to drive a small external FET, but an external driver is often used for the IRED cathode.
