This application note describes techniques for connecting the LCD controller available in the medium density STM8L152x devices, medium+ density STM8L152x devices and in the high density STM8L152x/STM8L162x devices to liquid crystal displays (LCD), for driving alphanumeric characters and for converting ASCII characters to LCD segment control codes. It explains how to select the LCD glass well suited for your application, and how to configure the LCD controller to take into account key parameters such as contrast, power consumption, number of used pixels, operating frequency range, and blinking. A brief description of both LCD segment drives firmware embedded on the STM8L1526- EVAL and STM8L1528-EVAL evaluation boards is also provided. For more information on the STM8L152x and STM8L162x LCD controllers, refer to the reference manual (RM0031).
This document describes techniques for connecting the LCD controller available in the STM8L152x and STM8L162x microcontroller families to liquid crystal displays (LCD). It covers driving alphanumeric characters, converting ASCII codes to segment control codes, and selecting appropriate LCD glass based on application parameters such as contrast, power consumption, and pixel count.
The note details the configuration of single, duplex, quadruplex, and octaplex drive modes. It also provides specific instructions for connecting two custom LCD glasses (PD-878 and HXO5002B) used on evaluation boards to various device densities. Additionally, it describes the firmware package available for these controllers.
