This document introduces the features and characteristics of the Agilent 255 nitrogen chemiluminescence detector, including the principle of detection, applicable range, advantages, etc
The Agilent 255 Nitrogen Chemiluminescence Detector (255 NCD) is designed to easily detect organic compounds containing nitrogen. It achieves this by converting the compounds into nitric oxide using a stainless steel burner that operates in a hydrogen and oxygen plasma at temperatures greater than 1800 °C.
The detector utilizes a red optical filter to transmit light from the chemiluminescence reaction while suppressing signals from other chemical species. This selectivity ensures that major constituents of sample matrices, such as carbon dioxide, water, nitrogen gas, and noble gases, do not interfere significantly with the determination of trace levels of nitrogen-containing analytes.
The detector can detect organic compounds containing nitrogen after they are converted to nitric oxide, as well as inorganic compounds like ammonia and hydrazine.
The stainless steel burner operates at temperatures greater than 1800 °C to convert nitrogen compounds to nitric oxide.
Compounds such as carbon dioxide, water, nitrogen gas, oxygen, noble gases, and chlorinated hydrocarbons do not interfere significantly with the determination of trace levels of nitrogen-containing analytes.
