The ADM1070 is a 48V hot swap controller from Analog Devices that provides safe board insertion and removal, prevents overcurrent and short circuit, and provides overvoltage and undervoltage detection.
The ADM1070 is a negative voltage hot swap controller designed to allow boards to be safely inserted into or removed from a live -48 V backplane. It achieves this by providing robust current limiting, protection against transient and nontransient short circuits, and overvoltage/undervoltage detection.
The device typically operates from a negative voltage of up to -80 V and can tolerate transient voltages of up to -200 V. In-rush current is limited by controlling the gate drive of an external N-channel FET via a programmable sense resistor and on-chip timer.
| Maximum Voltage Range | -200 V to -48 V (Limited by External Components) |
|---|---|
| Typical Operating Voltage Range | -77 V to -36 V |
| Quiescent Supply Current | 0.4 mA (typ) |
| Package Type | 6-Lead SOT-23 |
| Operating Temperature Range | -40°C to +85°C |
It allows a board to be safely inserted and removed from a live -48 V backplane.
It limits in-rush current by controlling the gate drive of an external N-channel FET.
The fault will be latched and the part goes into shutdown, disabling the external FET until power is reset.
