About this manual

The TPA711 is a bridge‑tied load (BTL) or single‑ended (SE) audio power amplifier designed for low‑voltage applications such as battery‑powered equipment and ear‑phone drivers. It operates from 3.3 V to 5.5 V supplies and can deliver 250 mW continuous power in BTL mode with less than 0.6 % THD+N across the voice band. The device can switch on‑the‑fly between BTL and SE modes, eliminating the need for external coupling capacitors or mechanical switches.

The amplifier is offered in an 8‑pin SOIC package (TPA711D) and a PowerPAD MSOP package (TPA711DGN), reducing board space and height. It includes a shutdown pin with ultra‑low quiescent current and integrated depop circuitry to suppress speaker noise when exiting shutdown mode.

Frequently asked questions

What is the maximum output power in BTL mode?

The TPA711 can deliver up to 700 mW at Vpp = 5 V into an 8 Ω load when operated in BTL mode.

How does the TPA711 switch between BTL and SE modes?

The SE/BTL pin controls the mode: pulling it low selects BTL mode, pulling it high selects SE mode.
