About this manual

The ADM1486 is a differential line transceiver designed for high‑speed bidirectional data communication on multipoint bus lines. It complies with EIA RS‑485 and RS‑422 standards and is recommended for PROFIBUS applications. The device integrates a driver and a receiver that can be enabled independently, and when disabled the driver outputs become high‑impedance.

Key features include low supply current (0.8 mA), thermal shutdown at 150 °C, short‑circuit protection limiting output current to ±200 mA, and fail‑safe receiver behavior that forces a logic high when inputs are floating. Up to 50 transceivers may share a bus, but only one driver should be active at a time.
