About this manual

The MIC79110 is a simple, accurate 1‑cell Li‑ion battery charger IC that integrates a pass transistor, programmable current limiting, and a precision voltage termination. It offers a digital end‑of‑charge flag, an analog current‑proportional output, very low dropout (550 mV at 700 mA), thermal shutdown, reverse polarity and reverse‑current protection, all in a tiny 10‑pin 3 mm × 3 mm MLF package.

Typical applications include cellular phones, PDAs, digital cameras, camcorders, MP3 players, notebook PCs, portable meters, cradle chargers, car chargers and battery packs. The device is supplied in both fixed 4.2 V and adjustable‑output versions and operates from –40 °C to +125 °C.

Frequently asked questions

What is the allowed input voltage range for the MIC79110?

The device operates with an input voltage from 2.5 V up to 16 V.

How is the current limit set on the MIC79110?

The current limit is programmed by connecting a resistor to the RSET pin; the limit is calculated as I_RSET = (0.2 V / RSET) × 1000.

Which pin provides the digital end‑of‑charge output?

Pin 8, labeled DEOC, is an open‑drain digital end‑of‑charge output that goes high‑impedance when charging is complete.

What is the dropout voltage at a 700 mA load?

The dropout voltage is 550 mV when the charger supplies 700 mA.
