The PA78 is a high voltage, high speed Precision IC power op amp with performance and unique features not found previ- ously in any commercially available OpAmp .
The PA78 is a precision high‑voltage operational amplifier designed for piezoelectric positioning, electrostatic deflection, deformable‑mirror actuation and chemical/biological stimulation. It features a patented low‑quiescent‑current input stage, over 350 V/µs slew rate, and up to 23 W internal power dissipation.
The device is offered in DK (20‑pin PSOP) and EU (12‑pin SIP) packages, each requiring proper heatsinking and external compensation networks to achieve stable high‑frequency performance. Detailed specifications, absolute maximum ratings and application notes are provided for designers.
| Supply Voltage Range | ±350 V |
|---|---|
| Continuous Output Current | 150 mA |
| Peak Output Current (200 ms) | 200 mA |
| Power Dissipation (DK package) | 14 W |
| Power Dissipation (EU package) | 23 W |
| Power Bandwidth | 200 kHz |

The PA78 can deliver a continuous output current of 150 mA.
The heatsink tab should be tied to a stable reference such as GND and soldered to at least a 1 sq in foil area on the PCB.
Typical quiescent current is 0.2 mA, with a maximum of 0.7 mA at a +150 V supply.
The device is rated for a maximum supply voltage of ±350 V.
