This document describes a trigger circuit for triggering the TRIAC in the second and third quadrants in a system using a positive power supply. New series TRIACs can replace conventional TRIACs by simply adding a capacitor and a diode.

This document introduces how to use AC switches to control inductive loads, including control methods, control characteristics and precautions.

This note shows how to connect an ST triac and an ST microcontroller. It introduces a conventional solution that uses a buffer transistor between the microcontroller and the triac, and a new solution that improves the sensitivity of the triacs and the output capability of the microcontrollers, allowing for a simple connection without a buffer transistor.

This note explains the thermal management precautions for handling and mounting semiconductor devices, including how to calculate a suitable heatsink and precautions for handling, mounting and soldering techniques.

This application note describes the design of an RC snubber circuit that improves the turn-off characteristics of a TRIAC

This document introduces a logic-level transient-voltage protected AC switch, which can be directly driven by a microcontroller unit (MCU) and has robustness against AC line transients to comply with electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) standards.

This application note presents test results obtained using ACS108 AC switch devices in order to analyze their behavior when subjected to standard ring wave surges.

Introduced the design and features of STMicroelectronics ACS™ (alternating current switches) and compared it with Z01

This document is AN1353 application note from STMicroelectronics, which introduces the software design of ST62000C, a low power electronic thermostat for 220-240V 50Hz cold appliances.

This application note describes the CLT3-4BT6 product and provides an example board to evaluate the robustness and immunity of the CLT3-4BT6 device.

This document describes the STCC08 device features and gives technical recommendations for implementing the STCC08 in the appliance and achieving robust STCC08 design regarding EMI tests (IEC 61000-4-4).

This application note introduces ST’s new high-temperature TRIAC family suitable for many high temperature applications, such as vacuum cleaners. These TRIACs can operate in ambient temperatures up to 150 °C. The design of TRIACs operating at high temperature requires special attention to the turn-off capability. In this application note, we first describe the turn-off behavior of TRIACs, then briefly explain how to optimize the turn-off capability. Finally, we present the performance of a new 12 A, 600 V device and compare it with other high-temperature TRIACs available on the market today, under extremely severe temperature conditions as can appear in vacuum cleaners.
