The MAX2016 is a dual logarithmic detector/controller designed for measuring and comparing power, gain/loss, and voltage standing-wave ratio (VSWR) of two incoming RF signals.

The MAX2015 is a complete multistage logarithmic amplifier designed to accurately convert radio-frequency (RF) signal power in the 0.1GHz to 3GHz frequency range to an equivalent DC voltage. The outstanding dynamic range and precision over temperature of this log amplifier make it particularly useful for a variety of base station and other wireless applications, including automatic gain control (AGC), transmitter power measurements, and received signal strength indication (RSSI) for terminal devices. The MAX2015 can also be operated in a controller mode where it measures, compares, and controls the output power of a variable-gain amplifier as part of a fully integrated AGC loop. This logarithmic amplifier provides much wider measurement range and superior accuracy compared to controllers based on diode detectors, while achieving excellent temperature stability over the full -40°C to +85°C operating range.

The MAX4003 is a low-cost, low-power logarithmic amplifier designed to detect the power levels of RF power amplifiers (PAs) operating from 100MHz to 2500MHz. A typical dynamic range of 45dB makes this logarithmic amplifier useful in a variety of wireless applications including cellular handset PA control, TSSI for wireless terminal devices, and other transmitter power measurements. This logarithmic amplifier provides much wider measurement range and superior accuracy than typical diode-based detectors. Excellent temperature stability is achieved over the full operating range of -40°C to +85°C. The MAX4003 logarithmic amplifier is a voltage-measuring device with a typical signal range of -58dBV to -13dBV. The input signal is internally AC-coupled by an on-chip 5pF capacitor in series with a 2kΩ resistor. This highpass coupling, with a corner at 16MHz, sets the lowest operating frequency and allows the input signal source to be DC grounded. The MAX4003 also features a power-on delay, which holds the detector output (OUT) low for approximately 5µs to ensure glitchless controller output. The MAX4003 is available in an 8-bump chip-scale package (UCSP™), an 8-pin µMAX package, and an 8-pin thin QFN package. The device consumes 5.9mA with a 3.0V supply and only 13µA when the device is in shutdown. Applications include cellular handsets (TDMA, CDMA, GPRS, GSM), TSSI for wireless terminal devices, transmitter power measurement and control, and RSSI for fiber modules.

MAX2205/MAX2206/MAX2207/MAX2208 are wideband power detectors from Maxim that are ideal for GSM/EDGE, TDMA and CDMA applications. These devices feature an internal RF filter that allows for average power detection of CDMA signals over a 25dB dynamic range. MAX2205/MAX2206/MAX2207/MAX2208 are available in a space-saving 2×2 UCSP package and require only three external components for system design.

The MAX4000/MAX4001/MAX4002 low-cost, low-power logarithmic amplifiers are designed to control RF power amplifiers (PA) operating in the 0.1GHz to 2.5GHz frequency range. A typical dynamic range of 45dB makes this family of log amps useful in a variety of wireless applications including cellular handset PA control, transmitter power measurement, and RSSI for terminal devices. The choice of three different input voltage ranges eliminates the need for external attenuators, thus simplifying PA control-loop design. MAX2754 is a self-contained, linear modulation, voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) intended for use in the 2.4GHz to 2.5GHz ISM band, particularly for FSK modulation systems that utilize a direct frequency-modulation transmit architecture. In addition to the standard frequency tuning input, this device features a linear modulation input. The frequency tuning range of 1145MHz to 1250MHz (1/2 LO) also supports an IF up to 110MHz with low side LO. The VCO is based on Maxim's proprietary monolithic VCO technology, where all VCO components are integrated on-chip, including the varactor and inductor. The MAX2754 linear modulation input offers a means to directly FM modulate the VCO with a constant modulation sensitivity over the tuning voltage input range. Typical frequency deviation is -500kHz/V which is linear to ±4% over the guaranteed frequency limits. The tuning input voltage range is +0.4V to +2.4V and the oscillator frequency is factory adjusted to provide guaranteed limits. The oscillator signal is buffered by an output amplifier stage (internally matched to 50Ω) to provide higher output power and isolate the oscillator from load impedance variations. The MAX2754 operates over a +2.7V to +5.5V supply range. This device also provides a digitally controlled shutdown mode to permit implementation of sophisticated power-supply management. In shutdown, the supply current is reduced to 0.2µA. Even when active, power consumption is a modest 41mW.

The MAX2605–MAX2609 are compact, high-performance intermediate-frequency (IF) voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs) designed specifically for demanding portable wireless communication systems. They combine monolithic construction with low-noise, low-power operation in a tiny 6-pin SOT23 package. These low-noise VCOs feature an on-chip varactor and feedback capacitors that eliminate the need for external tuning elements, making the MAX2605–MAX2609 ideal for portable systems. Only an external inductor is required to set the oscillation frequency. In addition, an integrated differential output buffer is provided for driving a mixer or prescaler. The buffer output is capable of supplying up to -8dBm (differential) with a simple power match. It also provides isolation from load impedance variations. The MAX2605–MAX2609 operate from a single +2.7V to +5.5V supply and offer low current consumption. These IF oscillators can cover the 45MHz to 650MHz frequency range.

The MAX2620 is an RF integrated circuit that combines a low-noise oscillator with two output buffers. It features low-phase noise, low power consumption, and wide supply voltage range.

The MAX2470/MAX2471 are flexible, low-cost, high- reverse-isolation buffer amplifiers for applications with discrete and module-based VCO designs. Both feature differential 50Ω outputs for driving a single differential (balanced) load or two separate single-ended (unbalanced) 50Ω loads. The MAX2470 offers a single-ended input and has two selectable frequency ranges of operation: 10MHz to 500MHz and 10MHz to 200MHz. The MAX2471 offers a differential input and operates from 10MHz to 500MHz. The MAX2470/MAX2471 also feature high input impedance for maximum flexibility, enabling them to be used with a variety of oscillator topologies. High reverse isolation combined with low supply current make them ideal for applications requiring high performance with low power. These devices are also ideal for use as active baluns. The MAX2470 converts a single-ended input to a differential output. The MAX2471 is useful as a differential buffer stage or to convert from a differential input to two single-ended outputs. The MAX2470 operates from a single +2.7V to +5.5V supply. At -5dBm output power, it consumes 5.5mA in the high-frequency range and only 3.6mA in the low-frequency range. The MAX2471 operates from a +2.7V to +5.5V single supply and consumes 5.5mA. Both devices are available in ultra-small SOT23-6 plastic packages.

The MAX9989/MAX9990 are MAXIM’s high output LO buffers that provide +14dBm to +20dBm of output power to drive the LO inputs of high-linearity passive mixers while offering 40dB reverse isolation to prevent LO pulling. The MAX9989 is internally matched for the cellular/GSM bands, and the MAX9990 is matched for the DCS/PCS/UMTS bands. The typical application circuit provides a nominal +17dBm output power with ±1dB variation over supply, temperature, and input power. With two optional resistors, the output power can be precision set from +14dBm to +20dBm. The devices offer more than 35dB main driver output to PLL amp output isolation. Each device is offered in a 5mm x 5mm 20-pin thin QFN package with exposed paddle. Applications include cellular/GSM/DCS/PCS/UMTS base station Tx/Rx LO drives, coherent receivers, ISM wireless LAN, wireless local loop, local multipoint distribution service, and point-to-point systems.

MAX9987/MAX9988 is a MAXIM's RF transceiver. The device integrates a passive two-way power splitter with high-isolation input and output buffer amplifiers. These buffers are designed to provide the high output (+14dBm to +20dBm) necessary to drive the LO inputs of high-linearity passive mixers, while offering 40dB reverse isolation to prevent LO pulling. The MAX9987 is internally matched for the cellular/GSM bands, and the MAX9988 is matched for the DCS/PCS/UMTS bands. The typical application circuit provides a nominal +17dBm output power with ±1dB variation over supply, temperature, and input power. With two optional resis- tors, the output power can be precision set from +14dBm to +20dBm. The devices offer more than 30dB output-to-output port isolation, and are offered in 5mm ✕ 5mm 20-pin thin QFN packages with exposed paddle.
