intersil ISL6425 handbook

The ISL6425 is a highly integrated solution for supplying power and control signals from advanced satellite set-top box (STB) modules to the low noise block (LNB). This device is comprised of a current-mode boost PWM and a low-noise linear regulator, along with the circuitry required for I2C device interfacing and for providing DiSEqC standard control signals to the LNB. A regulated output voltage is available at the output terminal (VOUT) to support the operation of the antenna port in advanced satellite STB applications. The regulated output may be set to either 13V or 18V by use of the voltage select command (VSEL) through the I2C bus. Additionally, to compensate for the voltage drop in the coaxial cable, the voltage may be increased by 1V with the line length compensation (LLC) feature. An enable command sent on the I2C bus provides standby mode control for the PWM and linear combination, disabling the output to conserve power. A current-mode boost converter provides the linear regulator with an input voltage that is set to the required output voltage, plus 1.2V (typ.) to insure minimum power dissipation. This maintains a constant voltage drop across the linear pass element, while permitting an adequate voltage range for tone injection. The device is capable of providing 750mA (typ.).

intersil ISL6423B handbook

The ISL6423B is a highly integrated voltage regulator and interface IC specifically designed for supplying power and control signals from advanced satellite set-top box (STB) modules to the low noise blocks (LNBs) of single antenna ports. The device consists of a current-mode boost PWM and a low-noise linear regulator along with the circuitry required for 22kHz tone generation, modulation, and I2C device interface. The device simplifies the total LNB supply design, making it simple, efficient, and compact with a low external component count. The current-mode boost converter provides the linear regulator with an input voltage that is set to the final output voltages, plus typically 0.8V to ensure minimum power dissipation across each linear regulator. This maintains a constant voltage drop across the linear pass element while permitting an adequate voltage range for tone injection. The final regulated output voltage is available at output terminals to support the operation of an antenna port for single tuners. The outputs for each PWM can be controlled in two ways, full control from I2C using the VTOP and VBOT bits, or set the I2C to the lower range i.e., 13V/14V, and switch to the higher range i.e., 18V/19V, with the SELVTOP pin. All the functions on this IC are controlled via the I2C bus by writing 8-bit words onto the System Registers (SR). The same register can be reused.

intersil ISL6111 handbook

The ISL6111 is a power switch controller designed for PCI and PCI-X applications, providing protection for the motherboard against abnormal PCI load cards. It controls the power supplies (+12V, -12V, +5V, +3.3V) to a PCI or PCI-X slot and integrates current sensing and regulation switches for +12V and -12V. It offers current regulation protection by sensing voltage and modulating gate voltage bias on external N-channel power MOSFETs for the 3.3V and 5V rails.

intersil HIP1011A handbook

The HIP1011A is the second PCI Hot Plug Voltage bus control IC from Intersil. A drop-in alternative to the widely used HIP1011, the HIP1011A has the same form, fit and function but additionally features an adjustable latch-off time of the MOSFET switches and fault reporting. Like the HIP1011, the HIP1011A creates a small and simple yet complete power control solution with discrete power MOSFETs and a few passive components. Four independent supplies are controlled, +5V, +3.3, +12V, and -12V. The +12V and -12V switches are integrated. For the +5V and +3.3V supplies, overcurrent (OC) protection is provided by sensing the voltage across external current- sense resistors. For the +12V and -12V supplies OC protection is provided internally. In addition, an on-chip reference is used to monitor the +5V, +3.3V and +12V outputs for undervoltage (UV) conditions. The PWRON input controls the state of the switches. During an OC condition on any output, or a UV condition on the +5V, +3.3V or +12V outputs, a LOW (0V) is asserted on the FLTN output and all MOSFETs are latched-off. The time to FLTN signal going LOW and MOSFET latch-off is determined by a single capacitor from the FLTN pin to ground. This added feature allows the system OS to complete housekeeping activities in preparation for an unplanned shut down of the affected card. The FLTN latch is cleared when the PWRON input is toggled low again. During initial power-up of the main VCC supply (+12

intersil ISL6113 handbook

ISL6113, ISL6114 are dual slot PCI-E hot plug controllers for PCI-Express add-in card hot swap application. Together with a pair of N-Channel and P-Channel MOSFETs, and two sense resistors per slot, either provides compliant hot plug power control to any combination of two PCI-Express X1, X4, X8 or X16 slots. The ISL6113, ISL6114 feature a programmable current regulated (CR) maximum level for a programmable period to each voltage load so that both fault isolation protection and imperviousness to electrical transients are provided. For each +12V supply, the CR level is set by a resistor value depending on the needs of the PCI-Express connector (X1, X4, X8 or X16) to be powered. This resistor is a sub-ohm standard value current sense resistor one for each slot and the voltage across this resistor is compared to a 50mV reference providing a nominal CR protection level adequately above the specific slot maximum limits. The 3.3V supply uses a 15mΩ sense resistor compared to a 50mV reference to provide 3.3A of maximum regulated current to all connector sizes. The 3.3VAUX is internally monitored and controlled to provide a nominal maximum of 1A of AUX output current. The CR period for each slot is set by a separate external capacitor on the associated CFILTER pin. Once the CR period has expired, the IC then quickly turns off its associated FETs thus unloading the faulted card from the supply voltage rails. A nominal 3.3V must always be present on the AUXI pin for pro

intersil ISL6142/ISL6152 Manual

The ISL6142/52 are 14-pin, negative voltage hot plug controllers that allow a board to be safely inserted and removed from a live backplane. Inrush current is limited to a programmable value by controlling the gate voltage of an external N-channel pass transistor. If the input voltage is less than the Under-Voltage threshold or greater than the Over-Voltage threshold, the pass transistor is turned off. The PWRGD/PWRGD outputs can be used to directly enable a power module. When the Gate and DRAIN voltages are both considered good, the output is latched in the active state. The IntelliTripTM electronic circuit breaker and programmable current limit features protect the system against short circuits. When the Over-Current threshold is exceeded, the output current is limited for a time-out period before the circuit breaker trips and shuts down the FET. The time-out period is programmable with an external capacitor connected to the CT pin. If the fault disappears before the programmed time-out, normal operation resumes. In addition, the IntelliTripTM electronic circuit breaker has a fast Hard Switch feature that can instantly turn off the FET when the current reaches the Over-Current threshold.

intersil ISL6140/ISL6150 handbook

ISL6140, ISL6150 are negative voltage hot plug controllers produced by Intersil company. The controller allows the circuit board to be safely inserted and removed from a live backplane. By controlling the gate voltage of an external N-channel pass transistor, the inrush current is limited to a programmable value. If the input voltage is less than the undervoltage threshold or greater than the overvoltage threshold, the pass transistor will be turned off. A programmable electronic circuit breaker protects the system against shorts. The PWRGD signal of ISL6140 is low-level and the PWRGD signal of ISL6150 is high-level.

intersil ISL6173 handbook

ISL6173 Dual Low Voltage Hot Swap Controller is a dual voltage hot swap controller that targets dual voltage hot swap applications across the +2.5V to +3.3V (nominal) bias supply voltage range with a second lower voltage rail down to less than 1V. It features a charge pump for driving external N-Channel MOSFETs, regulated current protection and duration, output undervoltage monitoring and reporting, optional latch-off or retry response, and adjustable soft-start. The current regulation level (CR) for each rail is set by two external resistors and each CR duration is set by an external capacitor on the TIM pin. After the CR duration has expired, the IC then quickly pulls down the associated GATE(s) output turning off its external FET(s). The ISL6173 offers a latched output or indefinite auto retry mode of operation.

intersil ISL6161 handbook

The ISL6161 is a HOT SWAP dual supply power distribution controller that can be used in PCI-Express applications. Two external N-Channel MOSFETs are driven to distribute and control power while providing load fault isolation. At turn-on, the gate of each external N-Channel MOSFET is charged with a 10µA current source. Capacitors on each gate (see the Typical Application Diagram), create a programmable ramp (soft turn-on) to control inrush currents. A built-in charge pump supplies the gate drive for the 12V supply N-Channel MOSFET switch. Over current protection is facilitated by two external current sense resistors and FETs. When the current through either resistor exceeds the user programmed value the controller enters the current regulation mode. The time-out capacitor, CTIM, starts charging as the controller enters the time out period. Once CTIM charges to a 2V threshold, both the N-Channel MOSFETs are latched off. In the event of a hard and fast fault of at least three times the programmed current limit level, t

intersil HIP1020 handbook

The HIP1020 is a single, double, or triple-output hot plug controller that applies a linear voltage ramp to the gates of 3.3V, 5V, and 12V MOSFETs. The internal charge pump doubles a 12V bias or triples a 5V bias to provide the high-side drive capability required when using more cost-effective N-Channel MOSFETs. The internally-controlled rise time meets Device-Bay specifications. If a slower rate is required, it can be overridden using an optional external capacitor. When VCC = 12V, the charge pump ramps the voltage on HGATE from zero to 22V in about 4ms. This allows either a standard or a logic-level MOSFET to become fully enhanced when used as a high-side switch for 12V power control. The voltage on LGATE ramps from zero to 16V, allowing the simultaneous control of 3.3V and/or 5V MOSFETs. When VCC = 5V, the charge pump enters voltage-tripler mode. The voltage on HGATE ramps from zero to 12.5V in about 3ms, while LGATE ramps to 12.0V. This mode is ideal for control of high-side MOSFET switches used in 3.3V and 5V power switching when 12V bias is not available.
