This document is Fluke's supplement to the 9500B Oscilloscope calibrator user manual, which introduces the use of 9500B Oscilloscope calibrator's Active Heads and related maintenance information.
This document is a supplement to the Fluke 9500B Oscilloscope Calibrator user manual, providing updated calibration procedures and specifications. It includes detailed instructions for calibrating active heads, edge functions, and head calibration using a verified 9500B mainframe. It also specifies equipment requirements, such as high-bandwidth oscilloscopes and trigger cables, and outlines step-by-step calibration steps for edge rise and fall times. The supplement includes updated tables and figures for frequency uncertainty and sine verification measurements.
| Frequency Uncertainty | >15kHz ±0.25ppm ±12mHz, ≤15kHz ±3ppm |
|---|---|
| Oscilloscope Bandwidth Requirement | ≥6GHz for Risetime measurements (≥20GHz for 9550 and 9560) |
| Trigger Cable Requirement | Short (no longer than 19.5 inches or 0.5 m), high quality, trigger cable fitted with SMA connectors |
A verified Model 9500B Mainframe, a high-bandwidth sampling oscilloscope with bandwidth ≥6GHz (≥20GHz for 9550 and 9560), a 50e SMA–SMA co-axial ‘Trigger’ cable, and possibly a high-bandwidth coaxial attenuator.
Connect the 9550 to a high-bandwidth oscilloscope, set the oscilloscope to average 256 samples, and measure the rising and falling edge transition times using the 9500B’s 25ps FAST Edge function. Calculate the average of 8 measurements and use the provided formula to determine the calibrated edge rise time.
The 9560 can only operate with the 9500B mainframe and requires the 9500B/3200 frequency configuration. It is not compatible with the 9500 oscilloscope calibrator or mainframes configured with frequency bandwidth less than 3200 MHz.
