This is an application note that introduces the implementation of IEEE 1588 precision time protocol on STM32F107.
This document presents a demonstration package for implementing the IEEE 1588-2002 and IEEE 1588-2008 Precision Time Protocol (PTP) on the STM32F107 connectivity line microcontroller. It utilizes the MCU's built-in hardware time stamping unit to achieve sub-microsecond synchronization precision, which is superior to software-only solutions.
The application note details the integration of the PTP daemon (PTPd) with the lwIP TCP/IP stack. It provides specific instructions for setting up the STM32F107 Ethernet MAC controller's time stamping unit, configuring correction methods, and porting the software stacks. The guide includes examples using evaluation boards such as the STEVAL-PCC010V1 and STM3210C-EVAL.
To present a demonstration package built on top of the free lwIP TCP/IP stack and the free PTPd stack for IEEE1588 synchronization.
The implementation covers both IEEE 1588-2002 (PTP v1) and IEEE 1588-2008 (PTP v2).
