This application note describes a high accuracy, low cost, single-phase power meter based on the ADE7757
This document describes a high accuracy, low cost, single-phase power meter design based on the ADE7757 integrated system. The meter is designed for use in single-phase, 2-wire distribution systems and can be adapted to suit specific regional requirements. The ADE7757 is a highly integrated system comprised of two ADCs, a reference circuit, and a fixed DSP function for the calculation of real power.
The design adheres to the IEC 61036 standard for alternating current static watt-hour meters. The schematic implementation uses a shunt for current-to-voltage conversion and a divider network for line voltage attenuation. The ADE7757 provides direct drive capability for electromechanical counters and a high frequency pulse output for calibration and communication.
| System Composition | two ADCs, a reference circuit, and a fixed DSP function |
|---|---|
| Operating Voltage | 220 V |
| Maximum Current | 30 A |
| Basic Current | 5 A |
| Dynamic Range | 400:1 |
| Meter Constant | 1600 imp/kWh |
| Standard Compliance | IEC 61036 |
The design used the IEC 61036 standard for alternating current static watt-hour meters.
The dynamic range performance of the meter has been extended to 400.
It is a low cost, single-chip solution for electrical energy measurement.
