This document provides an overview of the architecture of the EMC solution for Oracle RAC 10g on Dell/EMC CX3 Series arrays over FPC. This solution was developed by the EMC Commercial Solutions Practice.
The document provides an overview of the EMC solution for Oracle RAC 10g on Dell EMC CX3 Series arrays, detailing the business challenge, technology solution, and advantages. It includes solution architecture diagrams, storage network design, RAID configurations, and high‑availability features.
Hardware resources such as Dell PowerEdge servers, QLogic FC HBAs, Brocade switches, and CX3‑20 storage processors are listed, along with the required software components like Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Oracle RAC 10g Enterprise Edition, and EMC management tools.
| CPU | Dell™ Four Two 3.0‑GHz Intel Xeon dual‑core PowerEdge™ processors |
|---|---|
| Memory | 12 GB RAM |
| Internal Disks | Two 73 GB 10K SAS disks |
| Ethernet NICs | Two onboard GbE NICs and one additional dual‑port GbE NIC |
| FC HBAs | Two QLogic QLE2460 FCP HBAs |
| FC Switches | Brocade M4400, two 16‑port switches |
| Storage Processors | Dell/EMC CX3‑20 One Two Storage Processors |
| FC Shelves | Two or three FC shelves, one LCFC shelf |
| FC Disks | 30 or 45 × 146 GB FC disks, fifteen × 320 GB LCFC disks |
| Operating System | Red Hat Enterprise Linux – one per database server |
| Database Software | Oracle RAC 10g Enterprise Edition – one per database server |
| EMC Software | Navisphere Agent, PowerPath, FLARE, Navisphere Management – per server or storage processor as listed |
Each database server requires Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Oracle RAC 10g Enterprise Edition, EMC Navisphere Agent, and EMC PowerPath. Each CX3 storage processor needs EMC FLARE and EMC Navisphere Management licenses.
The guide presents several configurations, including 3‑shelf RAID 1‑0/RAID 1, 3‑shelf RAID 5/RAID 1, 2‑shelf RAID 1‑0/RAID 1, and 2‑shelf RAID 5/RAID 1.
