About this manual

The MAX3205E, MAX3207E and MAX3208E are low‑capacitance ESD‑protection diode arrays that include an integrated transient voltage suppressor (TVS). They are designed for high‑speed and general‑signal applications such as HDMI, USB, FireWire, PCI‑Express and Ethernet, offering 2 pF input capacitance per channel and minimal channel‑to‑channel variation.

The devices are available in multiple packages (9‑bump WLP, 16‑pin TQFN, 6‑pin SOT23, 10‑pin µMAX) and operate from –40 °C to +125 °C. Proper PCB layout and a 0.1 µF low‑ESR bypass capacitor placed close to VCC are recommended to achieve the best ESD protection performance.

Frequently asked questions

What ESD protection levels do the MAX3205E/3207E/3208E devices provide?

They protect against ±15 kV Human Body Model, ±8 kV Contact Discharge, and ±15 kV Air‑Gap Discharge as defined in IEC 61000‑4‑2.

How should a bypass capacitor be placed for optimal ESD protection?

Place a low‑ESR 0.1 µF ceramic capacitor as close as possible to the VCC pin and to ground to clamp voltage spikes during an ESD event.
