About this manual

The MAX3984 combines a receiver, a driver, and an LOS detector in a lead‑free 3 mm × 3 mm 16‑pin thin QFN package. It provides four selectable pre‑emphasis levels, selectable input equalization for up to 10 in of FR‑4 at 10 Gbps, and SFP‑compatible loss‑of‑signal detection with TX_DISABLE control. The device operates from 0 °C to +85 °C and supports data rates up to 10.3 Gbps for Ethernet and Fibre Channel applications.

Typical applications include high‑speed back‑plane links, copper cable assemblies, and active optical modules where signal integrity over long copper runs is required. The datasheet includes detailed electrical specifications, pin descriptions, package drawings, and test‑setup diagrams for both transmit and receive paths.
