The enhanced inertness of the new 5973 inert MSD improves analysis of trace level volatile sulfur compounds. When operated in scan or selected ion monitoring mode, excellent sensitivity, selectivity, and peak symmetry are obtained for active compounds. Eight volatile sulfur species are used to demonstrate these attributes in a variety of hydrocarbon matrices. The system is well suited for the characterization of fuel feedstocks and basic petrochemicals, where impurities can poison critical catalytic processes or affect product quality.

A method for the analysis of ppb level volatile sulfur compounds in a variety of hydrocarbons using a 6890N gas chromatograph equipped with dual flame photometric detectors is described. Thick film DB-1 and GS-GasPro columns are employed, and enhanced performance flame photometric detectors are used that can achieve detection of sulfur compounds below 20 ppb. Examples of arsine and phosphine analysis with the same hardware are also discussed.

The document introduces the technical overview of an Agilent Natural Gas Analyzer. The instrument uses a Thermal Conductivity Detector (TCD) to identify components such as isobutane, n-butane, isopentane, n-pentane, carbon dioxide, ethane, hydrogen sulfide, propane, oxygen/argon composite, nitrogen, methane, and carbon monoxide. The lower detection limit of the TCD is 200 ppm for most components, except for carbon monoxide which is 400 ppm. The system is compliant with Gas Processors Association Methods 2177 and/or 2261, and the analysis time is approximately 25 minutes.
