This document is a brief introduction to the STM8/128-MCKIT motor control starter kit, including the kit's features, description, and ordering information
The STM8/128-MCKIT is an integrated starter kit designed to provide a complete, ready-to-use motor control application developed around the STMicroelectronics STM8 microcontroller. It is particularly suited for driving three-phase brushless motors, either AC induction or permanent magnet types, and demonstrates the effective use of STM8 microcontrollers in real-world motor control applications.
The kit features a motor drive based on scalar control for three-phase motors and supports both Hall sensors/tachometers and sensorless control. The inverter is driven using PWM modulation. It acts as a plug-and-play demo out of the box with the provided BLDC motor in sensorless speed control mode, and can operate with an AC induction motor after reprogramming the microcontroller in open-loop or speed control mode.
| Motor Drive Type | Scalar control (BLDC or ACIM) |
|---|---|
| Motor Type | Three-phase motors |
| Control Methods | Hall sensors, tachometer, or sensorless |
| Inverter Drive | PWM modulation technique |
| Microcontroller | STM8 |
The kit is designed to drive three-phase brushless motors, which can be either AC induction or permanent magnet types.
The inverter uses the PWM modulation technique for operation.
After reprogramming the microcontroller, the kit operates with an AC induction motor in open loop or in speed control mode.
