This application note provides an overview of the STR73x power management features and gives some guidelines for using the low power modes to minimize the power consumption of the microcontroller. Example software is provided with this application note for implementing and showing the various low power modes.
This document describes the power management features of the STR73x microcontroller family. It details the internal regulators, including the Main Voltage Regulator (MVR) and the Low Power Voltage Regulator (LPVR), and explains how they function in normal operation versus low-power states.
The note further covers clock management strategies to optimize power consumption, such as disabling peripheral clocks and configuring different system clocks. It provides specific guidelines and procedures for entering and exiting various low-power modes, including SLOW, WFI, LPWFI, STOP, and HALT modes.
| MVR static power consumption | 3.97 mA typ at 25°C |
|---|---|
| LPVR voltage range | 1.8V (+/- 10%) |
| Max operating frequency with LPVR | 2 MHz |
| LPVR output current capability | not sufficient for run mode |
The LPVR provides a power supply of about 1.8V when the Main Voltage Regulator is switched off during low-power modes.
The MVR can be switched off when entering a low power mode by setting the VRLPW bit in the PRCCU_VRCTR register.
Wake-up from HALT mode is only possible by means of an external reset (H/W pin) or LVD reset (Power-on).
