This manual introduces the functions and usage methods of the Extech RF40 Battery/Coolant Refractometer with automatic temperature compensation.
This document is the User's Guide for the Extech RF40 Battery/Coolant Refractometer, a precision optical instrument designed to measure the refractive index of samples. It features automatic temperature compensation (ATC) to adjust readings based on ambient temperature variations between 50°F and 86°F (10°C to 30°C). The guide provides instructions on zero adjustment using distilled water, sample preparation, and reading the freezing point of glycol or the specific gravity of battery acid.
| Measurement Range (Glycol Freeze Point) | -60 to 32°F |
|---|---|
| Measurement Range (Battery Acid Specific Gravity) | 1.15 to 1.30 |
| Resolution (Glycol Freeze Point) | 2°F |
| Resolution (Battery Acid Specific Gravity) | 0.01 |
| Temperature Compensation Range | 50°F to 86°F (10°C to 30°C) |
| Dimensions | 6.2x1.6x1.2" (160x40x30mm) |
| Weight | 7.0 oz. (200g) |
Place one or two drops of distilled water on the prism, close the cover plate, and rotate the adjusting screw until the light/dark boundary lines up with the 'waterline'.
The sample should remain on the prism for approximately 30 seconds to ensure it spreads across the entire surface without air bubbles or dry spots.
Extech warrants the instrument to be free of defects in parts and workmanship for one year from the date of shipment.
